A quick note to introduce myself. I have been an ADI for 12 years. However, for the past four years I have not taught. I am employed by East Anglian DriveAbility which is an independent charity with occupational Therapists and Approved Driving Instructors that specialise in enabling outdoor mobility with centres across the whole of East Anglia. They are fully accredited by Driving mobility. They work in partnership with the DVLA, mobility and the Department for Transport.
They provide assessment and advice from a team of highly qualified professionals covering physical and cognitive abilities.
They advise on how to overcome problems with vehicle control, for example using hand controls or other vehicle adaptations. .
They also assess wheelchair and mobility scooter use with advice on selection, including advice on loading and transporting mobility scooters in a vehicle. This can also include the use of wheelchair accessible vehicles.
Although I no longer train new drivers I do give introductory instruction to clients who are changing to drive with vehicle adaptations so i like to keep abreast of the latest developments in training and coaching.
